Cutting-edge nuclear technology continues as West Cumbria is set to be Britain’s Energy Coast™; leading the nuclear and energy industry. The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority’s head quarters are here and world-class support facilities are based at Westlakes Science and Technology Park and Britain’s Energy Coast Campus at Lillyhall, where the University of Cumbria and Energus are located. West Cumbria also continues to be home to major specialist manufacturers.

Barrow-in-Furness and Carlisle offer unique commercial locations with the former at the core of the UK shipbuilding industry with BAE based here, whilst the £60 million The Waterfront Barrow-in-Furness has redeveloped the port into one of the UK’s newest and exciting business locations. Cumbria’s capital Carlisle continues to grow with flagship companies including food manufacturer Cavaghan & Gray, logistics giant Eddie Stobart and tyre maker Pirelli.
